Swiss Classic British Car Show 2011
SWISS CLASSIC BRITISH CAR MEETING IN MORGES
This past weekend Morges hosted the 20th edition of the Swiss Classic British Car Meeting. Every year well over a thousand (last year 1,600) classic British cars and motorbikes line the streets of Morges by the lakeside.
The event was absolutely free – and thousands of people turned up to see many of the world's most beautiful cars on a stunningly, crisp October day.
This year there were some spectacular motors....
· E-Type Jaguars. This year's make of honour celebrating their 50th anniversary. The E-type was launched at the Geneva Motor Show in 1961, and the owner of the actual car that was on the Jaguar show stand in 1961, chassis number 5, wa at Morges for the day. In '61 this car was driven overnight from Coventry to Geneva on the eve of the Geneva Motor Show, washed and polished early in the morning and driven on to the Jaguar stand, where a couple of hours later it became THE sensation of that year's show.
· DeLorean. The unique stainless-steel bodied car which became famous in the star role of the Back to the Future films, was on display to celebrate their 30th anniversary
· McLaren. The new road car from the Formula One team was, for the first time, on public display at Morges. Called the McLaren MP4-12C and made of carbon fibre it boasts 600 bhp and a modest price tag of over 280,000 CHF.
